It is a well known and very documented fact that Australians have the highest rate of skin cancer worldwide. Most experts agree that the most common cause of skin cancer is from Ultraviolet Radiation. Although the Australian sun burns with intense heat, it is the invisible Ultraviolet Radiation rays that can burn a person and cause damage to unprotected fair skin within a short time of 15 minutes. UPF is the term for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and it represents a specific scale or rating that the UV protection provides by various materials. Sunscreens have always carried the SPF identification code, and the term UPF was selected to distinguish it from the SPF screening code.
